Starting from Scratch

Oh, hey. 

My name is Susanna Steeg Thornhill and I have thought of starting a blog for years and years.

I’ve always had lots of reasons why I shouldn't do it. There are already too many voices in the world. Who wants to hear from me? What do I have to add to the mind-bogglingly immense conversation taking place at all times?

But today is my day to begin. 

If you're wondering who I am, I suppose I could say I am  what the kids call a multi-passionate entrepreneur and I'm in the process of changing my life significantly. I’m pivoting from being an educator my whole life to doing something that will (hopefully) give me a little more time and freedom. 

When I considered what this blog needs to be about, and the daunting nature of starting from scratch, I figure honesty is the best policy. I have impressions more than certainties, a vague sense of what it should be that I must trust will become clearer with time.

I do know I want this blog to serve others as well as myself. I know I want it to be a reflective space where I can not only remind myself of what’s important but hopefully ease the way for someone else. I want to  help other people feel good about their lives and excited about accomplishing their goals. I know what it's like to accomplish big tasks alongside others, and I know what it's like to labor alone in the dark for a long stretch of lonely time. 

I'm passionate about making things I love; these days, that involves quilting, crochet, and thrifting unique home decor. I  also love to connect with other people and I mainly do that through writing. I love helping people make their writing more beautiful, clear, and more concise. I love to interact with like-minded others and find myself challenged in conversations with those who think differently. I love to design and act with intentionality and reduce the integrity gaps in my life. I do this with lots of reading. I tend toward the self-help genres and so I often share what I'm reading with those I love. I deeply appreciate the power of therapy and getting more insight into why and how I am the way that I am. I love sharing heart to heart with a fellow traveler over a cup of coffee. I love being part of small groups, moving toward a singular goal. I love recognizing that I can show up differently in the world with a small tweak to my daily pattern.  I also enjoy TikTok a lot. That's another platform I think I might need to get on but I haven't been that brave, yet. 

Starting from scratch is never easy. We have to trust that what we know today will grow into something better than we can imagine if we only put the time in today. That's why I’m starting this blog.  I hope you'll come along with me. Because while I do want to make money with this  business, I also want to connect with people like you. What I want to say to myself and to you today is it's okay to start over, it's okay to make a new choice, it's okay to start from scratch.
