I have walked in your shoes.
I have loved working with words since I was young, but developing my own academic voice in graduate school was challenging for me. I know what it is like to struggle with procrastination, academic writing voice, and creating an effective qualitative story. I needed support to navigate these challenges. During my dissertation years, my peers and I created the Fab Five, a group of academic women who formed a strong writing community and saw each other to the finish line.
As an academic writing coach, I work from the heart; relationship is key to effective teaching and learning. I began my teaching career in 2000 in an elementary classroom. Since then, I have prepared teachers, literacy specialists, and educational leaders in higher education over the past twenty years. I also obtained tenure in my field at George Fox University before leaving to pursue private consulting work.
During my time in academia, I chaired or supported more than fifty doctoral dissertations, coaching writers through the difficult work of conceptualizing their ideas, conducting high-quality research, and writing effective and readable dissertations. I know how scary it can feel to submit a manuscript for peer review or send a dissertation chapter to your chair. I help academics get past those fears as they navigate rigorous academic programs.
I serve clients effectively by bringing empathy and experience to a thoughtful evaluation of writers’ work. In my time off, I enjoy coffee shop writing with close friends, exploring new areas of the country, and reading books with my littles.
What I can do for you:
I have a passion for working 1:1 with adult learners who want to become better writers and qualitative researchers. I will help you find your voice, focus your methodological decisions, write with conviction, and move your academic writing forward with ever-increasing confidence.
Writing is solitary work. It can be easy to procrastinate, doubt, or abandon your efforts. Coaching and editing can speed your path and shorten your academic timeline. If you’re feeling afraid to talk with your chair or colleagues about your challenges with writing, please reach out. I can offer resources and give you feedback that will make a difference in your academic trajectory.
